I think that I can safely say that Wild Pear Cafe in Dural is the most popular cafe in the Hills district. If you ask anyone who lives out in this part of Sydney for a recommendation for a lovely breakfast, the majority will say Wild Pear Cafe.
We first reviewed the cafe back in 2013 and we were really impressed with the ambience, service and quality of the food. We dined with the boys and had an enjoyable breakfast and the only issue we had at the time, was that the kids menu was on the expensive side. It's now two and half years later, and we have been back to visit Wild Pear (this time without the kids) and it was all to do with a milkshake!
Wild Pear Cafe are now famous for their Rosewater Milkshake with Pashmak. Photos of this very pretty girl have been clogging my social media for months, so when my birthday just happened to occur on a day where both of my offspring were at their institutions of education, I convinced Mr Munch to take me out there for brunch!
The "Pash Me" shake (my new name for it) was a pure delight and at $7.90 quite delightful value for money and it most certainly put a smile on my birthday dial. As did my huge meal of Mushrooms, Fetta, & Walnut Sage Butter on Toast with Fried Eggs. See that's the thing, some of the meals at Wild Pear are a tad expensive (like most cafes these days) BUT the size of the portion and the deliciousness of the food, certainly make up for it.
I was surprised to find that on a Thursday morning at about 9.30am, that Wild Pear was almost full to the brim. I know on weekends you can't score a table unless you have a booking, and it looks like weekdays are heading that way too. There were business men, gorgeous young things who instagrammed everything they saw, new Mums with big prams and young families with restless toddlers. The service was excellent and attentive, and considering how the full the place was, we received our drinks and meals really quickly.
Now back to the kid friendly aspects of Wild Pear. There is parking out the front of the cafe but it does get quite full. And as they share their property with a posh pot shop, you need to make sure you read the signs and not park in front of the said posh pots. Once you have unloaded your brood, you can easily drive your pram straight into the cafe, but I suggest if you dining at peak hour, you should ring ahead and make a booking and advise them that you are encumbered. When this place is full, there isn't a lot of room to move a pram around. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with the tables on the outside large wrap around verandah being the most popular as they have views over the rural 'hood of Dural.
High chairs are available, toilets are on site and they still have their kids menu for breakfast and lunch. Babycinos will set you back $1.00, kid size shakes are served in cute milk bottles and cost $3.50 and a kids juice will cost you $2.90. So that you can enjoy your yummy meal and also the pretty shake in peace, I suggest that you pack some sort of activity to occupy your little munchers.
Wild Pear has been operating for quite a few years now and I think it will be around for a long time to come. It was the perfect spot for a birthday brunch, so next time you are looking for a lovely cafe to have a special meal at (with or without the kids) or just want to treat yourself to a Pash Me Milkshake, Wild Pear Cafe is it x
