This time last year we presented you with Sydney's best babycino at Sorelle on Grand in Brighton Le Sands and this year we present you with Sydney's best kids milkshake from The Vogue Cafe in the Macquarie Centre. This little bottle of magic will cost you $4.00 and it's not the only magic that you will find at this oh so sweet cafe.
The Milkshakes at the Vogue Cafe first came to my attention last year when the very tasty Go West Gourmet put a picture up on their blog of an adult's milkshake. It was unlike anything that I had seen before - absolute decadence. And as you can see the kids version is pretty darn decadent too. Decadent babycinos and juices are also available for your little joys to slurp down and I'm sure they will be just as spesh as the milkshakes - it's all about the presentation at Vogue cafe - even the food looks amazing!
We arrived at the Vogue Cafe mid morning after a spot of shopping. I had just bought myself some fitness gear because apparently I'm going to learn to run this year and lose my mummy tummy. So it was perhaps not the best decision to visit the most decadent cafe in the whole of the Macquarie Shopping Centre as my new years resolution was about to take a severe battering. The only thing I can say is that the Vogue Cafe is well hidden in an alcove, so we did do quite a few steps to get to it. In case you can't find it, the cafe is located at the Myer end of Level 2 in the Macquarie Centre up near the car park entrance. There is actually seating for the cafe almost out in the car park and if you have a pram I suggest you take a seat out here (or right in front of the cafe) as when the cafe is full, it would almost be impossible to manoeuvre a pram inside. They do have high chairs in case you need one and baby change facilities/toilets are available not too far away in the shopping centre.
We had arrived in time for morning tea - kids milkshakes and coffees were ordered plus a selection of sweet treats from the cake cabinet. With the emphasis being on magic milkshakes I wasn't expecting too much from my caffeine fix but I'm very pleased to report that they brew a very decent brew indeedy do! The sweet treats were exactly that - sweet and something you should probably only treat yourself to now and then as they come drizzled with chocolate, sprinkles and lollies. Willy Wonka would have been very impressed!
Now if you would prefer your kidlets to have something substantial to eat, then there are three items on the "kid's stuff" menu: a cheesy grilled baguette, 6 nuggets & chips with sauce or sourdough soldiers spread with jam, peanut butter, vegemite or nutella. The adults menu is extensive and has a French influence - fruity french toast, crepes, baguettes etc. There are also some very quirkily named items such as "not a misteak" aka the steak sandwich, and "buff beef burg" a beef burger or "lyngweeny" - linguine tossed with grilled eggplant, olives, tomato, chilli& napolitana sauce. Most menu items are between $10 - $20.00. The brunch items we saw being served to other diners looked so good and I want to go back to road test the menu some more, but maybe after I learn to run for a bit!
The ambience at The Vogue Cafe is quite retro frenchy chic - white and green tiling, white washed and wrought iron furniture, flowering plants, vintage china and delicate teaspoons. And there are some sweet tunes pumping out of the sound system. There are tables of various sizes, some high and some low, and even comfy lounge chairs to relax in. And don't worry, your kidlets don't need any activities to occupy themselves with as the act of devouring that sublime milkshake is an activity all in itself!
Service was very fast and friendly. Gorgeous young lasses are on hand to look after you and hallelujah, it is table service - I'm starting to get over all of these order and pay at the front counter places because what do you do with the kids? It's ok if you have older ones but if you have little tackers, you have to take them with you to pay and then you run the risk of losing your table.
So my dear Little Munchers do you know of a more magic milkshake than the ones The Vogue Cafe create? If so please let us all know x
P.S. since our original visit, we have been back to sample their babycino - and of course it too is quite magical! ($1.50)
