With a name like The Ranch, I just knew that my boys (aka the little bulls) would be happy visiting this pub. And parents this is quite possibly the closest thing to a perfect child friendly pub you can find in Sydney.
The Ranch gets loads of big ticks from this thirsty Mumma.
Firstly they have a fantastic outdoor playground that suits most kids under the age of 10 which is shaded by sails; they have an entertainment corner (with video games) for those parents that have young stallions instead of little bulls; and they have a colouring in corner where you can grab as many crayons and colouring in sheets as you can and then take them back to your table to keep the little bulls occupied.
They have an extensive menu that features a whole section on children's meals. There are all of the usual suspects which are colour coded according to their health value. They have quirky names like "Fly the Coop" (chicken nuggets) and "Flipped Out" (fish n chips). The big bonus is that a kid's meal comes free when ordering an adult main meal at lunch Mon - Sat or all day Sunday.
WARNING: the adult meal must cost more than $20.00. We got stung here as our burger and wrap were only $18.00 each so we didn't qualify for the deal. I didn't see that nasty little * in the advertising that this was the case - basically the "small print" was very small!
The Seniors Menu is cheap - so take along Nan n Pop! When you order a kid's meal you can then "value add" to your meal. eg for an extra $1 you can get a take home plastic cup for the kid's soft drink - otherwise the drink comes in a glass from the bar. You can also pay an extra $2 and get a "show bag" or $3 and get etc etc
"Fly the Coop" was divided in 2 - Mumma was too tight to pay for two! The actual menu at The Ranch is quite expensive especially for a pub located on a very busy road in a suburban/business area like North Ryde. So look our for their daily offers and meal deals to make sure you get the best value. If you are after something for morning or afternoon tea they have a coffee bar separate from the bistro where you can order your latte, babycino and some very delicious looking cakes.
There is ample seating at The Ranch - both inside and out. The best place for parents with littlies to sit is right near the playground. You are inside and it is air conditioned, but you can still keep an eye on the little bulls. There is also plenty of room for prams.
On Sundays The Ranch has family funday. They have entertainment like face painting and a jumping castle but be warned there would probably be loads of those pesky helicopter parents around. We went on Wednesday for lunch and the little bulls had the playground to themselves. You can also join the Ranchies kids club which promises loads of competitions and specials deals.
The last items in the list of big ticks is that they have a baby change room (also the handicapped toilet) as well as loads and loads of high chairs and loads and loads of parking.
So basically The Ranch gets the big thumbs up from the little bulls and their thirsty parents....you can also grab some bubbles or beer to take home from the drive thru bottle shop outside x
