OK before I tell you about how lovely and kid friendly Nice at Nelson Bay is, I just want you to linger a bit longer and check out the gorgeous presentation of the dish above! Have you seen anything presented as beautifully as this has been for breakfast before? And I'm sure the swine loving carnivores amongst you are probably thinking yeah it's pretty but where is my bacon! Well here it is Little Piglets and it looks pretty darn gorgeous too:
When on a recent holiday in the Port Stephens area, Nice at Nelson Bay was our favourite cafe. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left we had a wonderful experience. The cafe is located on the first floor of Nelson Towers Motel (which is across the road from the visitors centre and overlooks the Marina at Nelson Bay). You can either park down at the waterfront in the paid car park and walk across the road and up to the cafe (there is both ramp/stair access); or park your car on Magnus Street and walk through the back of the Nelson Towers Arcade to the cafe.
You have the choice of sitting inside or out at Nice, and there is quite a bit of space to park your pram. The outside seating is obviously the most popular, as you have views over the waterfront. High chairs are available and the toilets are located just around the corner from the cafe. They provide full table service at Nice and I'm sure your little people will love the very uniquely presented menus as they come inside Little Golden Books (and we all remember those don't we...)!.
The other things that kidlets will love is the toy corner. Located just inside the cafe there is a decent selection of toys and puzzles as well as a couple of little kids tables. Our boys spent most of our breakfast in there happily playing and we had a perfect view of them from our outside table.
With the boys happily occupied, we enjoyed our amazing coffee! The very divine Allpress Coffee is used at Nice - actually it is used at loads of cafes in Port Stephens. The coffee was brewed perfectly and I so love the cool mug that it was served in, and of course the little piece of biscotti that accompanied it.
Our little humans have their very own kiddy menu for both breakfast and lunch. The boys sampled the buttermilk pancakes, that came with maple syrup and ice cream ($8.50). I loved how they were served up up on a funky (unbreakable) melamine plate too! Other options are vegemite/jam toast; banana toast with curly butter; ghost toast (poached egg on toast); and for those of you who have kids with a big appetite, the big kid breaky would be ideal - egg, sausage, bacon, toast & t-sauce ($9.50). At lunch time all of the meals are ten bucks, and they come with chippies, salad and t-sauce. Kids can choose between a crumbed fish fillet, roast chicken breast or salt n pepper calamari.
Now on to the grown ups menu - obviously there is my stunner of the Nice Granola - this beautiful dish was full of honey toasted almond muesli with yoghurt and fresh fruit and garnished with edible flowers and micro herbs. And for $12.50 it was fantastic value as it was a very generous serve. Now if this doesn't tickle your fancy the Buttermilk Pancakes also look amazing, and the toasted French Croissants with various fillings sound pretty darn good too. Their Eggs Benedict were flying out of the kitchen so I'm presuming they were very tasty indeed.
I'm sure whether you dine at breakfast, lunch or just for coffee and cake at Nice, your meal will be perfect. Service was brilliant and you can even make sure the chef doesn't lick the spoon, as there is an open kitchen!
I think this summary of the cafe from their menu is perfect. Nice at Nelson Bay is more than nice, it is fabulous and they do a seriously great job of running a cafe. So make sure you drop by when you are in Port Stephens on holiday - ok! But be warned this place gets very busy, so perhaps be smart Little Munchers and arrive early.
Do you visit Port Stephens often Little Munchers? If so what is your favourite cafe?
