I have a list, a very long list in actual fact, of establishments that I want to review for Little Munch. However, every now and then I stumble into a little "find" that I had no idea would be kid friendly. This happened last weekend when we went on a drive out to Rouse Hill Town Centre (RHTC). I had read about their community garden and I wanted to have a squizz, as I have vague plans about creating one in our street. Right across the way from the community garden is my latest child friendly find in Sydney - Griddle.
Now some of you may consider Rouse Hill to be out in woop woop and I agree, it is a bit of a hike from the centre of Sydney, but I encourage you to take a drive one day out to woop woop - especially on a Saturday. On Saturday there is a very decent Organic Farmers Market that takes place in the grounds of RHTC and the shopping centre itself is lovely, as it is all essentially outside - it has been created to resemble a town street scape as opposed to a mega mall - and I love to shop this way - no nasty lighting going on here! And of course you can have lunch at the very child friendly Griddle.
Griddle is a bit of a steak and ribs joint, so it is man belly heaven. But they do have an extensive menu that caters for all tastes and especially kids. As soon as we were seated the sweet young waitress bought out a large menu that doubles as a colouring sheet for the little bulls. The bulls happily coloured in until their fish and chips arrived.
I was just about to order us individual soft drinks for $3.50 each when I saw that you could get a jug for ten bucks - cha ching! Just in case you were wondering, the jug was full of lemon squash not cider, but I'm sure you could get a jug of cider if you were in the mood for it.
Mr Munch and I enjoyed our hearty steak sandwiches ($16.95) - a note of warning ladies, they are huge! The steak was a nice big piece of rump, perfectly cooked and very tender - no chewy minute steak on this baby. The side salad was a welcome addition - I gave it to the little bulls to eat so that their lunch was a wee bit healthier!
Other menu items for adults include quesadillas, nachos, thai beef salad, burgers, pizza and of course ribs and steak in every shape and form. The menu is priced from about $16.95 for the lighter options right up to 50 bucks for a 1kg Grain Fed T-Bone steak!! That's Fred Flintstone kinda food. Griddle is fully licensed and is open for breakfast on Fri - Sat - Sun, lunch and dinner is served every day. They open from 11.00am for lunch which is very kid friendly. Likewise with dinner you can eat it as early as you want!
Griddle is actually the perfect spot for Mothers groups that would like a special meal out (hint Christmas Party). There is loads of room for prams inside and out, they have high chairs in abundant supply and loos with baby change tables, aren't too far away. If you pre book your group in from Mon - Thur you can receive 15% of the bill - it's also the same deal with kids parties. Conditions do apply so check when you make your booking.
I really can't fault any aspect of Griddle - service was very attentive and very quick, just how it needs to be when dining out with kids. The ambience was typical of a large restaurant - we were seated outside in the undercover area as there was a 21st B'day party happening inside. There were quite a few other families outside as well and all the kids seemed to be very well behaved - I think because they were so busy colouring in and eating. Griddle is also right next door to the cinema so this would be a perfect spot for a meal before or after a movie. Griddle has another restaurant in Port Macquarie in case you are ever up there on holidays.
So dear parents, here is another child friendly restaurant in Sydney, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner for you to check out. I'd love to know how many Fred Flintstones are out there - if you go to Griddle and order that 1kg T-Bone, make sure you upload a before and after shot to the Little Munch FB page x
