I so love my Little Munch community. I'm constantly being sent messages about cool little kid friendly spots to try all over Sydney and even beyond it's borders. Recently a lovely reader told me about this place in Wyong called Glee Coffee, so we headed north on a little day trip to check it out.
Wyong is such an easy drive from Sydney, about 1 - 1.5hrs from Sydney depending where you live. Glee Coffee can be found in the interesting old Chapman Building, across the road from the Wyong Shopping Plaza. There is heaps of parking around and they open from 6am during the week and 8am on Saturdays, which is perfect for both commuters and bleary eyed parents. The place is most definitely run by hipster barista types, but golly gosh they are friendly and super nice to kids.
The interior space is huge and there is plenty of rooms for prams and groups of people. Kidlets will be occupied with the colouring in, box of toys and building blocks. There are communal tables, lounges and other areas for y'all to sit on. Menus are on the table and when you have made you decision pop up to the front counter to place your order.
Glee Coffee pride themselves on their coffee - their motto is that they only love one thing more than coffee and that is people. They source and roast their own beans and only use 100% Arabica beans - you can even buy their beans at the cafe. You can choose between filter and drip coffees to have in store. Now the coffees we had were superior (skim flat white) as is their babycino - loads of chocolatey froth and two marshmallows.
Kidlets have their own little menu and they can choose between waffles or an egg on toast and on Saturdays they flip out some pancakes for kids to enjoy. Which is exactly what our lads enjoyed - 2 big fat pancakes with maple syrup and ice cream.
For those of us with large appetites we can have anything from a corn & zucchini fritter stack to french toast to avocado delight (which we sampled and were delighted with). The carnivore of a husband was a bit disappointed that swine doesn't feature on the brekkie menu, but I'm a firm believer in being a bit herbivorish now and then - much better for our arteries. At lunch time although you can get some piglet in the pulled pork burger, or perhaps you might prefer the pulled beef nachos. And vegos will no doubt be happy with the bruschetta or Glee salad that is full of all things good for you.
There are actually a few Glee Coffee joints around. There are cafes on Darby St in Newcastle and also Erina Heights. So if you find yourself in any of these locales, I most definitely recommend that you stop in for a coffee at least!
