Orange, in Central NSW, is packed with loads of cafes but there is one stand out for me - the Factory Espresso. This cafe could be at home in any trendy suburb of Sydney (as could its clientèle). It is sleek, modern and uber cool. When we walked through the front door of the Factory Espresso at 8am on a Saturday morning, I was knocked out by how funky it was, and I was immediately worried that there wouldn't be any kid friendly aspects to the cafe, but boy was I wrong.
Factory Espresso is located off the main drag of Orange, in Kite Street right next to the Bullets & Bits shop! There is plenty of parking available on the street in front of the cafe. There is nice big door at the entrance which you can easily fit your pram through. There is also room to manoeuvre your pram and and also park it at your table once you are inside the cafe. High chairs are available and there are excellent toilet facilities on site. Whilst there isn't a baby change table in the loo, there is plenty of room to fit you, the pram and the tribe in there, all at the one time.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, service was top notch. The staff were young, vibrant and seriously efficient. You order and pay at the counter and your meals are brought to the table. Arriving at 8am, when Factory Espresso first opens, we scored a table easily. However by time we left an hour later, the place was packed to the rafters - so get there early!
Kidlets have their very own menu for both breakfast and lunch. I love that the menu is reasonably priced and also includes both healthy and not so healthy options - do you want to be naughty or nice? We didn't road test the kids menu however, as the boys had spied the pain au chocolats on the front counter when we walked in, so that's all they were interested in eating. They ordered hot chocolates to drink, but there are also kids strawberry/chocolate milk drinks available as well as babycinos.
The boy's food and drinks were served super fast, which is perfect when dining out with ravenous children. I forgot to ask for the their hot chockies to be served in a take away cups, but the boys surprised me with how well they handled the glasses that they came in - we only had a wee bit of spillage from the 5 year old. The pain au chocolats were perfectly flaky (I can always tell how fresh they are by how many flakes of pastry end up in every crevice of the boy's clothes) and were devoured quickly. To keep the boys entertained during our meal I pulled out the electronic devices - make sure you pack some sort of entertainment for the kidlets as well, because you won't want to be interrupted when you are savouring every morsel of the Factory Espresso's damn fine food.
I had serious food envy when Mr Munch's breakfast arrived on the table! See I had ordered the healthy Baristas Breakfast (a mix of crushed ripe avocado, Persian fetta, parsley & mint served on sourdough with a poached egg). Now whilst this dish was certainly delicious, I think Mr Munch's Honeycomb Bacon would have been more suitable for a wintry day in Orange. This bad boy was literally oozing with deliciousness - there was grilled honey bacon, worcestershire mushrooms, slow roasted tomatoes and perfectly poached eggs, all on top of Turkish toast. Then, there was even honeycomb on top of all that - from which sticky honey oozed down over the whole dish! The declaration from the husband was that it was the best breakfast he has ever filled his belly with. And you know what that say - happy husband, happy life ;)
Whether you are a carni, herbi or omni vore, there is something for you on the menu at Factory Espresso. And you must have a coffee to complete your meal because this place is also the home of Bills Beans. I haven't seen Bills Beans being served in Sydney yet, but I have seen them in a few cafes in the country (and loads of places in Orange). The coffee is spectacular - the roastery is actually on site and you can buy the beans to take home with you. And because not all of you are caffeine addicts, I should mention that Factory Espresso even have their own range of teas and their very own hot chocolate, so once again everyone is well catered for. Just to let you know know that you can also pick up a Bills Beans brew in East Orange, at their espresso bar - 148 McLachlan St, which is also open 7 days a week from early in the morning.
We had such a wonderful experience at Factory Espresso that we went and looked in the windows of some real estate agents in Orange, trying to work out if it was feasible to make this our local! So Little Munchers whether you are visiting for a few days or just driving through on your way to the zoo in Dubbo, make sure take the time in your journey to visit the fabulous Factory Espresso where you will find good coffee, good food and great service x
So do tell Little Munchers, do you ever get food envy?
