If you find yourself in Lake Macquarie and fancy a nice little breakfast, lunch or dinner in a restaurant close to the water, then you should check out Deck 56 in Belmont. Belmont is on the eastern side of the lake and you will find Deck 56 directly across the road from the lake's edge!
There is a decent amount of parking along the street in front of Deck 56, and if you need to take your pram with you, access is very easy into the restaurant via the disabled ramp on the side. There is a little bit of space to park your pram next to your table, however if this place is full to the brim, you may need to ask other diners to move out of the way for you. Otherwise plonk your babe down in one of the high chairs that are available. You will find toilet facilities on site (no baby change table though), and you will be happy to know that our little people are welcomed with open arms.
Now the reason that I say kidlets are welcome with open arms is that not only are the members of staff very friendly towards them but they also have a pretty cool kids menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner that doubles as an activity sheet! As soon as we sat down for a late Saturday lunch, our lovely host delivered the menu and coloured pencils to occupy the boys, as well as refreshing vino for us to enjoy whilst we looked out at that lovely view of the lake.
From the kids menu my non foodie boys chose yet again the Nuggets and Chips, and I'm happy to say that it came with a decent side salad, so at least their bellies received some nourishment along with their deep fried lunch. They also chose a Kids Mega Milkshake believing that they might have been in for one of those trendy looking freak shakes that are everywhere at the moment. Alas it was just a plain chocolate milkshake. There is also table water, babycinos, soft drinks and juices available for little people too.
Now lets move on to Mumma and Pappa's meals - they were superb! Old boy's BLT with the most delish crunchy sweet potato chips was huge, and my Lemon Pepper Squid was perfectly cooked. It was served with a gorgeous relish that complimented the squid nicely. The menu is a tad on the expensive side, but then again you are right on the water and that seems to put the price up nice matter where you go.
By day Deck 56 is most definitely like an upmarket cafe but at night time it morphs into a stylish restaurant. They start their dinner service from the family friendly hour of 5.30pm and you can definitely make a booking which is a win win in my opinion. The modern Australian menu has quite a few seafood dishes on it and they are also fully licensed in case you need a glass/bottle or two, to cope with dining out with the kidlets.
After lunch, we took a meander along the lake's edge. The boys had great fun chasing all of those pesky seagulls and they also discovered a playground which was about a 2 minute walk away from Deck 56. Meanwhile we sat back and watched all of the activity on the lake, dreaming about owning a holiday shack there one day x
