When I was a child I dreaded being taken to a plant nursery. My Mumma seemed to take hours wandering around them with my little sista and I following, bored witless. So who would have thought that 30 odd years on I would do the same thing to my little ones!
Just like my Mumma, I now love nurseries and I can spend hours wandering around them. BUT luckily for my little bulls these days nurseries come with child friendly cafes and playgrounds!
One such nursery is Flower Power at Glenhaven and its child friendly cafe is called Cafe Belle Fleur and sadly the beautiful flower is a wee bit tired and droopy. It needs a bit of TLC, it needs a good clean and it needs to review its prices...even my Mumma agrees cause she came along on our outing.
But in saying all of that the little bulls were well catered for. There is the play ground, there are excellent kid's menus for both breakfast and lunch (although they are expensive), there are high chairs, there is loads of room and access for prams. There are also loads of other parents there with their offspring, which makes it really kid friendly.
Back to the droopy beautiful flower - you wouldn't buy it from a nursery at full price would you? You might be tempted to, if it was heavily discounted. But if it is watered and it's looking fresh and healthy then you might consider paying top dollar for it.
So the same goes for a cafe. If I walk into a cafe and see that it's sparkling clean and well maintained I am happy to part with my cash. However when I walk into a venue and it is tired and a wee bit grotty I'm not happy spending $2.75 on a babycino! Yes that is right $2.75 - in some cafes you can get a whole cappuccino for that price. It does come with a marshmallow, but seriously a bit of froth and a marshmallow ain't worth $2.75 - not even in a sparkling clean cafe!
Now that I have had my gripe I have to admit that the service was prompt and friendly and the food was OK. We were there for morning tea and the little bulls had smartie biscuits and a chocolate milkshake (which was very kid friendly in its plastic cup) and Nanna bull and I had coffee and tarts. The coffees were average and the tarts were nice, but only nice.
As there was a playground the little bulls were occupied and we could keep a close eye on them as there are loads of tables and chairs all around. But even the playground was grotty - it needed one of those very noisy blowing machines used on it to blow away all the debris that had accumulated over the floor.
I did my mandatory toilet check, but alas there was no baby change table, just very wet floors - so tread carefully. I even looked in the cleaning chemical cupboard (for a baby change table) which was open, as did my inquisitive little bulls - so yet again be careful.
Make sure you check out the pond outside the cafe as there are ducks and some massive big fish that are lookin for a feed...watch out little bull!
Interestingly the Flower Power nursery itself is lovely - one of my favourites. They are reasonably priced, have a fantastic range and really helpful staff. They also have a really nice gift shop, florist and they offer a customer loyalty club which gives you a 5% discount at Cafe Belle Fleur - and trust me you need it!
I'm disappointed that I have negative comments to make about Cafe Belle Fleur cause if it was tarted up a bit it would be nice as one of its tarts...but I would still hesitate at paying $2.75 for a bit of froth and a marshmallow x
Tell me Parents how much do you think is too much to pay for a babycino?
