Waverton is one of those hidden suburbs of Sydney, that you perhaps don't know much about. It has a train station, it's located close to the harbour, it's within a bull's roar of the city and it's a wee bit posh. The locals probably love the fact that it's off the radar for many Sydneysiders, but oh well, that's all about to change. Little Munch has just discovered the most gorgeous child friendly cafe smack bang in the middle of Waverton and I'm going to tell all of Sydney about it. Botanica Garden Cafe (BGC) is located on the main drag of Waverton. It was formerly a nursery (plant not baby) hence its name and lovely surrounds. It is decorated in an eclectic, shabby chic style with the garden theme being central to every square centimetre of the place. All of the seating is outside, with half of it being under shelter so this really is a cafe for fine weather like the beautiful sunny morning when we dined. We arrived at opening time - 8.00am - and were the first customers of the day (as you are with small children) oh and a few of those pesky lycra clad young chicky babes also came in to put me off my breakfast. Do you know who I'm talking about? Gorgeous young 20 somethings, been for their morning jog and then come and sit at the table next to you and order fruit salad and skinny decaf lattes! Seriously girls you can eat fruit salad at home, you're at a lovely cafe so you should choose something off their delicious menu, like the breakfast pansy! Anyways, Mr Munch wasn't complaining that they sat next to us and I should say that the lycra chicks didn't realise we had manic toddlers with us, as our babes were upstairs in the kid's play area! Once the boys came bounding down the stairs looking for their breakfast, the perfect make up on the faces of the chicky babes did slightly crack, as our babes do nothing quietly. By the way, why do girls wear make up when exercising, especially first thing in the morning? The boys were sniffing around for their Toasty Sourdough with Nutella. I read somewhere once that it was a good idea to empower children from any early age by asking them what they want to eat (my Mother would tell you that this is ridiculous and they should eat what they are given) so when we asked the lads if they would prefer Nutella Toast or Little Soldiers...of course they went for the Nutella Toast. The serve came with 4 pieces of sourdough, a generous side of butter and even more generous of Nutella and all of this for $5.00. The cute babycinos are 80 cents each, so we fed the boys for $6.60 a rarity when eating out in Sydney these days. If you are dining at lunch time with your little ones the BGC offers the "Hide and Seek" for kids to devour (basically spag bol with vegies hidden in it $9.50). I have mentioned before in other blog posts about the price of breakfast in cafes in Sydney at the moment. It's extortionate - you need a lot of coin to eat out in this beautiful city of ours. However when you see a sign out the front of a cafe that says "Breakfast Special - Bacon & Egg Toasty with Coffee for 10 Bucks" than you feel as though you've hit the jackpot. That's the exact sign that greeted us as we walked into BGC and it is exactly what Mr Munch and I ordered. The Toasty was a free range egg, beautifully smoked bacon and a delicious house made chutney all sandwiched between 2 large slices of Brasserie Bread toasted sourdough and it was so good. (Those lycra chicks don't know what they were missing!). Our coffee was perfectly made, probably because BGC use Pablo and Rustys coffee beans - my absolute favourite! So we enjoyed a delicious breakfast for $26.60. I have to say that we have spent north of $50.00 for breakfast before for our little family of 4 and it was no where near as awesome as the breakfast we had at Botanica Garden Cafe! Now just in case I didn't get my point across about how darn child friendly this cafe is, the BGC has it's own designated parking area for prams - with a sign showing you exactly where (have not seen this in cafes before) and when you go and pay the bill your darling ones are offered a sweetie from the lolly jar, to say thanks for stopping by! Oh Botanica Garden Cafe, if only I didn't have to zoom down the M2 to get to you. I'm afraid my Etag is broke and you won't be seeing me in the near future, but never fear I'm sure I'll find a way. Maybe if I start eating fruit salad and drinking skim caps I'll be able to squeeze myself into some lycra and I could jog down there???? https://www.facebook.com/BotanicaGC 61a Bay Street Waverton NSW 2060 0432689555 Open Tue - Fri 8am - 4pm; Sat - Sun 8am - 3pm
