Hey Blacktown - what's going on? You're making a big spash into the foodie scene of late that's for sure, with funky new joints opening up left, right and centre! And the best bit is that they are all family friendly - so a big thank you from team Little Munch!
The latest family friendly venue that we've visited in the area is the Blacktown Bowling Club. It's just received a 1.6 million dollar spruce up and it's definitely a place you should have on your radar to visit some time soon with your fambam. The biggest drawcard is the 3 level kids playground. This under water themed space kept our 9 year old happily entertained during our visit, as he climed through the various levels making new friends as he went. So your babes this age and younger will no doubt love it too.
And the playground is right next to the Club's new restaurant - Terrazzo Verdi. So you can sit and watch your kidlets play whilst you enjoy a really tasty meal. Terrazzo Verdi as the name suggests is an Italian inspired restaurant and the meals that the kitchen pumps out include Italian classics as well as Club favourites like burgers, schnitzels and fish & chips.
The restaurant has plenty of high chairs and so much space to park your pram (or multiple prams) around the table. Little bowlers have their very own $10.00 kids menu which includes a bowl of ice cream. Choices are fairly standard - spaghetti bolognese, fish & chips or chicken schnitzel & chips and the portion sizes are ideal for small tummies. If you have kids with bigger appetites, there are heaps of options for them to eat on the main menu.
The adults in our group sampled the Classic Fish and Chips ($17.00) when we dined for lunch, which came with a decent sized crispy side salad. The flat head fillets were cooked perfectly and they went down a treat with an iced cold beer on a sunny Saturday. We actually ate our lunch on the new outdoor terrace at the Club which overlooks the bowling greens - it's the best space to sit if you want to escape noisy kids (oops did I just say that!). I should also mention here that you can play barefoot bowls at the Blacktown Bowling Club - if you haven't played before, give it a go. They are so much fun and you will have so many laughs with the whole family.
But back to the food - make sure you leave some room for dessert, as they are seriously good! We shared a Sticky Date Pudding, which is as delicious as any we've ever tasted. There was also a lush looking Lemon Meringue Pie available as well as some other sweet looking tarts. If you dine on Thursday nights all desserts are half price with any main meal ordered. There's a nice range of smaller Italian biscuits and cakes to go with your coffee as well.
The Blacktown Bowling Club is only open Wednesday through to Sunday - so don't rock up there at the beginning of the week. Instead get your Mum Squad together midweek or on the weekend and head there with all the kids, and let them have a tonne of fun in the playground. Then you can either enjoy coffee and cake from Terrazzo Verdi OR if you are in need of something a little "stronger" may we suggest that you order a delcious looking Antiapasto Platter and our favourite vino, La Boheme Rose from the bar - bliss!
You will find the Blacktown Bowling Club down near Blacktown Hospital - so if you need to de-stress after waiting in emergency there for some time head to the Club for a quick cuppa or vino! There's heaps of parking and very easy access into the Club with your pram.
So my dear Little Munchers - are you loving the revamping of local bowlos like the Blacktown Bowling Club as much as we are? And do you know of any other gems in Blacktown that should be on our radar?
