I have a confession to make - I'm not a very good driver. I much prefer to be in the passenger seat than behind the wheel. See, I have this fairly decent cafe radar - my eyes can spot them from miles off, and as a result it is much safer for me not to be in charge of the wheel. Take for example last week when I was driving down a very familiar street in Castle Hill, a street where a favourite cafe of mine closed down earlier this year (Air Coffee). When I spied a sign called Beanmeister - lets just say that in my excitement at discovering a new cafe, the kerb and my front wheel had a bit of an unhappy meeting.
Anyway I am very pleased to report that I can still drive my car and that Beanmeister is most definitely a cafe - a new cafe in the exact same spot that was once home to Air Coffee, and they have literally just swung open their doors for business! And thankfully Beanmeister is just as good as Air Coffee used to be. The cafe actually is very similar to the previous one - the coffee is still brilliant but they use different beans (Black Drum Roasters), the amount of fantastic space is still the same, and the yummy menu is very similar also to what you could munch on at Air.
For those of you have not been to this cafe before, the best place to park is on the street in front of the building where it is located. Yes there is a slope that you will have to push a pram up, if you are at that stage in life, but it isn't Mt Everest so you shouldn't be too short of breath when you get to the top. Make sure you enter through the door near the outdoor seating, as you will have to negotiate a few stairs if you use the main door.
You still have the choice of sitting inside or out at Beanmeister, and whilst the interior walls and kitchen area are exactly the same, there are new tables and chairs. Whether you decide to sit inside or out there is enough room between the tables for the kidlets to wander around without causing too much disturbance to other diners. We love sitting outside so that the boys can wander around the grassy area, and play with their toy cars on the ground, but just remember to keep a close eye on little wanderers as the road is close by.
Now for the other kid friendly aspects of Beanmeister - space, there is loads of it, so gather your Mums group and have a lovely coffee date there; they have high chairs; the loo still has the baby change table in it - you will find it just up the stairs near the front door; the staff are delightful and are very accommodating of kids; and lastly there is a toy box to keep little people amused!
Kidlets don't have a dedicated menu at Beanmeister, but I'm sure you will find something for them to eat on the menu. Toast, Banana Bread, Ham & Cheese Toasties, as well as a Pasta of the Day are all good examples of options for them. The cake cabinet has some really good baked goods - my little mate loved his friand when we dropped by for a mid morning snack. For drinks they serve milkshakes, babycinos as well as a range of soft drinks to quench your little one's thirst. There is also a self help water station. I was really impressed when I asked for a babycino that the member of staff asked if I would like it in a small cup or takeaway cup - I chose the later and it came with a straw, which meant none of the usual spillages for us. By the way you order and pay at the front counter.
The reasonably priced all day menu is very similar to the one that previously existed at Air, but with a few additions. I was very happy to see that the poached eggs on toast with baby spinach and tomato relish still features on the menu, this is one of my favourite items as it is a substantial breakfast/brunch and is also great value for $10.00. Some other tasty sounding dishes on the menu are the Avocado & Sweet Pea Smash on Toasted Sourdough with Fetta, Sumac Dust & Fresh Mint; and Cauliflower & Almond Falafels with Lemon Scented Yoghurt, Pita Bread & Beetroot Dip. All sounds very healthy doesn't it! Don't worry carnivores you can fill your bellies with loads of delicious sounding options, such as a Chicken & Bacon Burger or a Tradie Egg & Bacon Roll.
Thank you Beanmeister for swinging open your doors, I'm sure local parents will be flocking there again very soon, enjoying all of that space, the brilliant coffee and tasty food.
