Taking kids furniture shopping is tortuous! The kids hate it and you normally spend the whole time making sure they don't put their grubby little paw prints over some extraordinarily expensive white piece of furniture. But if you can bribe your little darlings with the promise of a sweet treat and a play (if they behave themselves perfectly) than that can make the ordeal a wee bit easier for you.
We were recently visiting the Auburn MegaMall on Parramatta Rd looking for something obscure, which meant we had to visit quite a few of the centre's stores - and we had our little lads in tow. The centre is home to all sorts of furniture and electrical stores. In my experience, these sorts of places have quite bland cafes inside them that serve ordinary coffee and food. But the Auburn MegaMall doesn't. It has the delicious Barista Haus in it. This funky little cafe is right next to the mall's Kids Space - a pirate ship themed play gym, so it is the perfect spot to recharge the batteries when you are out shopping with the fambam.
Barista Haus is located on level 1 of the mall. There is loads of space to park your pram and also those of your friends, so it would make for a great place to meet your mums group too. And as the mall has heaps of undercover parking available, this makes for a perfect rainy day outing for you and the brood. The coffee at Barista Haus is superior and they have a very decadent range of donuts, nutella balls and the like, that will give you a decent sugar fix mid shop. They even create those amazing looking shakes with a tella ball on top. There is a full breakfast and lunch menu available in case you need something more substantial, with their huge burgers being the speciality of da haus!
They have a kiddies menu for lunch time which costs $7.95 or less. Pluto pups, mini pizza, fish and nuggets all come with hot chippies. There are also melts available too on the main menu if you would prefer something that isn't deep fried for your little ones. For drinks there are babycinos, hot chocolates, shakes, soft drinks and juices available to quench the thirst of little people. And if they drink too much and you need to use the loo in a hurry, the toilets are just across the way from the cafe and they include baby change facilities.
If you are like us and make a naive decision to go furniture shopping as a family, my advice is to definitely visit Barista Haus after you have explored the shops. Because if you do it before, you have lost your bargaining power, and the likelihood of grubby little paw prints has tripled especially if they have just demolished a nutella ball!! And yes, we were guilty of that...but luckily the nutella paw print was placed on something in Fantastic Furniture where a baby wipe quickly cleaned up the mess on their extraordinarily cheap piece of furniture x
During the school holidays the Auburn MegaMall always have some sort of free kids activity happening so make sure you keep an eye on their FB page to see what is coming up.
