Children's High Tea

High tea is such a civilised affair isn't it? Lots of sitting around, chatting quietly whilst nibbling on delicacies in a refined environment. And normally those refined environments are not suitable for children. However there are quite a few establishments in Sydney that offer high tea for our offspring, and there is quite a difference in price. The cheapest I have found is $7.00 and the most expensive is $65! So here is the Little Munch guide to Children's High Teas starting with the ones that will hurt your hip pocket the most:

Picture
The Langham Hotel - Millers Point
This is a fabulous spot for high tea! During some of the school holidays The Langham hosts a themed high tea for kidlets to enjoy and whilst they are probably the most expensive venue in Sydney for children's high tea (up to $65), your child will be thoroughly spoilt. We haven't ventured here for high tea yet, but two of my favourite kids writers have with their daughters, so you can read all about it here: Sydney Kids Food + Travel as well as here Adventure Baby.

Picture
Fairy & The Forg Creperie - Concord
Mad Hatters High Teas are held monthly at this very special little cafe in the inner west of Sydney. High teas for kidlets cost $45 and for their parents and carers $60. They will also do special birthday high teas too! Adventure Baby and her gorgeous little fairy have experienced it first hand - read her post here.

Picture
Lilianfels - Katoomba
Lilianfels is synonymous with high tea! It's almost a Blue Mountains institution to take tea there. Children are also most welcome to partake and their menu costs $35.00. For this they will receive a selection of finger soldiers, sweet treats, pikelets with jam & cream and their choice of a cup of tea or hot choclate - bliss!

Picture
Hydro Majestic Hotel - Medlow Bath
This iconic hotel has just had a multi million dollar face lift and it looks amazing. Their high teas are held in the Wintergarden and the Children's High Tea costs $35.00. Kidlets will enjoy a selection of soldier sandwiches, sweet treats, and pikelets with jam & cream. Their choice of beverage is either a cup of tea or hot chocolate.

Picture
Sir Stamford Hotel - Circular Quay
Another stylish city hotel that welcomes kidlets in for the high tea experience for $32.00 per child (check for school holiday specials). Kids can nibble on scones with clotted cream & jam, innovative petite desserts, traditional finger sandwiches and a glass of juice or a hot chocolate. Served daily from 11am - 4pm.  If you would like to check out what's on offer before you go, check out Sydney's best foodie blogger, Not Quite Nigella's review of the Kids High Tea.

Picture
Sugar n Spice - Chatswood
Located in the lovely Chatswood Chase shopping centre, this stylish cafe serves a Kids High Tea at $29.95. For this price little ones receive a kids cupcake, brownie, fresh strawberries with choclate dipping sauce, a sandwich, banana sushi and a signature babycino!

Boronia Tea Room - Mosman
They offer a Little Ladies Tea at the elegant Boronia House (hopefully little lads are allowed as well). Little Ladies are required to be from 5 - 11 years old and they will nibble on 7 little bits and pieces. They can sip on either a T2 tea, a coffee, a hot chocolate or a pink lemonade and this will cost $29.00.

Picture
Hotel Intercontinental - Double Bay
This is Sydney's newest (and most swankiest) hotel. They serve high tea for stylish lasses and lads in their Stillery Bar for $25.00 per child. For this kidlets receive either a hot chocolate or soft drink and yummy morsels such as strawberry lollipops and chocolate dipping sauce, white chocolate and smartie cupcake, chocolate brownie, hundreds and thousand cookie as well as some little toasted sandwiches!

Picture
Gunners Barracks - Mosman
Located right on our beautiful harbour, the Gunners Barracks is a favoured spot to savour high tea. For $25.00 your little ones can eat petit pastries, finger sandwiches, a scone with jam & cream and choose between a hot chocolate, juice or soft drink to wash it all down with.

Picture
Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel - Sydney
This is a great value "Kids in the City" high tea in a posh location! This lovely 5 star hotel provides a $25 high tea for kidlets (adults start at $49) from 10.30am each day. Children receive a selection of mini savoury items and sweet treats like a lemon sprakles meringue, fruit jelly shots and dotty blue fairy bread! To drink little humans can choose between a soft drink, juice, blu lemonade, mocktail or a cup of tea if their palates are developed enough.

Picture
The Fiddler - Rouse Hill
Even though this a pub, they serve high tea on their gorgeous verandah. For $25.00 bambinos can enjoy pigs in a blanket, finger chicken sandwiches, mini house made beef pies, oreos with marshmallow pops as well as pink or rainbow lemonade. They also host kids birthday party high teas!

Picture
Arthur Street Cafe - Baulkham Hills
Children under 12 yrs can enjoy high tea for $20 (adults $35) at this suburban gem. All of the treats on the high tea stand are made inhouse - baking just like Grandma used to do. High tea is served from 11am - 2.30pm every day, and bookings are essential.

Picture

Little Ladies & Gents under the age of 15 years can enjoy a high tea experience at this charming cafe in North West Sydney for $20.00. Booking must be made in advance and children will enjoy a mix of sweet and savoury treats as well as a kidlet's drink.

Picture
The Tea Salon - Westfield Sydney
This gorgeous spot within the swanky city Westfield shopping centre does a $19.95 children's high tea, which we have experienced as a family. Kidlets receive a chicken & mayo pinwheel sandwich, a warm scone, and two mini treats accompanied by a Anna Pavlova cup of tea (or milkshake/juice).

Picture

Tin Lids from 3 - 12 yrs old can enjoy tea in this charming old building at the entrance to Parramatta Park for $19.00. They will fill their bellies with fairy bread, mini cupcakes, assorted sweet bites with a juice or soft drink. If you book an outdoor table, kidlets will be able to run around the garden so that you can perhaps enjoy a sip of tea in peace and quiet.

Picture
The Tea House @ Camellia Gardens - Caringbah
The beautiful gardens and playgrounds of the Camellia Gardens are the perfect spot to picnic. However you can also partake in High Tea in the Japanese inspired Tea House that is on site. For $18.50 the children's Mad Hatter menu includes all of your favourites and perhaps even some colouring in!

Picture
The Carrington Hotel - Katoomba
This grand old dame in the Blue Mountains has served many a high tea and on Sundays from 2.30pm - 5.00pm you and your brood can take tea in the Grand Dining Room. The kids high tea costs $18 and includes a handmade selection of sweets, savouries, sandwiches and scones.

Picture
The Tea Cosy - The Rocks
Oh I love the Tea Cosy! And it is literally housed in a very cosy space so perhaps don't drag ten kidlets along for their reasonably priced afternoon tea unless you have booked a function with them. For $7.00 kidlets can munch on a scone with jam & cream and slurp down one of their gorgeous babycinos.

Picture
Miss Nellies - Kendall
If you find yourself on the mid north coast you MUST stop in at Miss Nellies in Kendall. They do a fabulous kids high tea - I even let my boys partake in it!! The cost is $15.00 and kidlets receive fairy bread, mini cupcakes and savoury baked goods along with their very own pot of pink lemonade!

There are also quite a few businesses that provide children's high teas for birthday party bookings - Sparkle Cup Cakery in Surry Hills; Decorati in Wetherill Park; Sydney Chocolate School in Mosman; High Tea Delights in your own home; and We Came Here To Party in your own home.

Do you know of any other establishments that roll out the fine china for kids high teas? If so please let me know - rebecca@littlemunch.com
